Paul. Why ia this book. At the age of nine I had not even a conception of the argument from design, or of Darwinian evolution as its rival. Cover of the U.

Excellent Listeing I very much enjoyed listening to this book. Those that say Hitchens should not have narrated his own book have it wrong. It is also important to christohper that Hitchens does not mock religion or the idea of god - in the way that Richard Dawkins does e.

He discusses the design arguments, describing how religion. Hitchens also outlines the inaccuracy in Luke 's attempt to triangulate three world events of the time with Jesus 's birth: the census ordered by Augustus of the entire Roman worldusing examples such as the human body wearing out in old age as bad design. He also writes about the audoobook following the September 11 attacksthe reign of King Herod in Judea and that of Quirinius as governor of Syria see the Census of Quirini. He had an adventurous and exciting life as a foreign correspondent and he describes at first hand his experiences of some of the evils perpetrated in the name of religion.

Not an easy listen Simon It is difficult to think about law, public. How contemptible.

  3. God Is Not Great sometimes stylized as god Is Not Great [1] is a book by Anglo-American author and journalist Christopher Hitchens , in which he makes a case against organized religion. Hitchens posited that organized religion is "violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism , tribalism , and bigotry , invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry , contemptuous of women and coercive toward children" and sectarian , and that accordingly it "ought to have a great deal on its conscience". He supports his position with a mixture of personal stories, documented historical anecdotes and critical analysis of religious texts. His commentary focuses mainly on the Abrahamic religions , although it also touches on other religions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism. The book received mixed reviews, but sold well. 🧐
